Pickamania 2018 in Kingston NM

Pickamania — a three-day showcase of live music, happening in Kingston New Mexico on September 14-16, 2018 — has evolved from its origins in the mid-1980s as a backyard party hosted in a garlic shed into a festival celebrating the love of acoustic music of all genres.

The event went mainstream in 2008 when the Mimbres Region Arts Council adopted the name and created its own awesome Pickamania festival in a downtown park in Silver City, with professional bands from across the country.

The event moved to Kingston in 2017, and will be held at the Black Range Lodge‘s outdoor Pavilion for the second year in a row.

Reviving the home-grown spirit of the original party, Pickamania features a talented line-up of musicians.

Pickamania originator, the accomplished luthier and stand-up bass player Bill Bussmann (featured in an article last year in the Albuquerque Journal), will once again act as Master of Ceremonies, introducing Saturday’s bands and injecting his special sense of humor into the proceedings.

Wine and beer will be available from Black Range Vineyards and food trucks will be on hand. Bands will bring their CDs for sale, for those who want to take the music home.

Comments

    • Hi Scott, we checked with the Black Range Lodge – they said there’s no need to bring chairs, and coolers aren’t allowed inside the gates. Tickets are available at the door.

    • From the owner of the Black Range Lodge: “Yes, a limited number of well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash, and bring poop bags. We reserve the right to intervene if dogs become a problem. Consideration is the key, and usually there are no problems.”
