Elephant Butte Lake – Campfires Allowed!

Fire restrictions are currently in place state-wide, for reasons known to everyone who’s not living under a rock.

campfires allowed 100' from the water at Elephant Butte & Caballo LakesBut! Did you know you can still have a campfire at Elephant Butte Lake?

You may build a fire on the beach as long as it is within 100 feet of the water, OR in one of the designated fire pits at campsites that are situated close to a hydrant. (And there are evidently plenty of hydrants.)

In other words—bring weenies!

If you’re accustomed to doing a lot of cooking when you’re at the lake, please keep in mind that propane cookers are permitted but charcoal cookers are currently not welcome in the park.

For more information, call State Parks or inquire at any gate as you enter.

Grab the tent and pack up the car, it’s time to go camping!
