Since July of 2005, when the Truth or Consequences Art Hop began, many downtown shops, galleries, and studios have been opening their doors to the public from 6-9pm each month.
Even as the landscape of downtown businesses has shifted; through wind, rain, sleet, snow, and summer heat; whether crowds have been expected to be large or small; and whether or not the horse-drawn carriage was making its rounds (it’s been seen in 2012!); the Art Hop has been a constant.
If you enjoy a bit of night life and are coming to Sierra County for the weekend, time your trip to coincide with the event and take in art (guaranteed), music (highly probable), performance (not unheard of), food (absolutely!), and other entertainment on the streets of Truth or Consequences and in its downtown businesses.
A list of T or C businesses is available on our Shopping page. Not all of them participate in the Hop, but it’s a starting place.
The best way to find out what’s going on is to attend – shows are sometimes planned last-minute, and sometimes events happen spontaneously. A band can appear on a corner here, a projector might be set up to show a movie on the side of a building over there. Since Truth or Consequences’ downtown can easily be walked end-to-end in 20 minutes if you don’t make any stops, the odds are in your favor that you won’t miss a thing!
But if you really like to know what’s up ahead of time, some information on shows and events during the Hop is posted in numerous places…
- on the event sponsor’s (Truth or Consequences MainStreet) Art Hop page
- on the Art Hop Facebook page
- at SierraCountyEvents.com
- on flyers posted in windows and on bulletin boards around town
- on the websites of participating businesses
The Shopping / Art Hop district is roughly contained in the green area on the map below.
For some, soaking in Truth or Consequences’ Hot Springs and Art Hop go hand in hand. Commercial hot springs are located within the blue area.
