Sierra County, home to Elephant Butte Lake (New Mexico's largest), Caballo Lake, the Rio Grande River and our natural hot mineral springs, is truly an Oasis of the Southwest.

Here, you will enjoy a lifestyle of leisure, relaxation and inspiration. Vast scenic vistas of lakes, high desert valleys and mountain ranges intermingle with our quaint communities. A mild climate and abundant sunshine make Sierra County suitable for year-round outdoor recreation.

The area is rich in history. Ancient Native American civilizations once lived here; mining towns boomed in the late 1800s. In the 16th century, Spaniards came through as they carved the El Camino Real from Santa Fe to Mexico. We invite you to come and explore the villages in Sierra County that many call “living ghost towns."

Whether you prefer to luxuriate in our natural hot spring baths, visit our museums, relax in nature, explore local shops, or enjoy our art galleries, restaurants and local entertainment, you will not be lost for things to do. Sierra County is the getaway for rejuvenating your spirit.

Visit us, and stay a while…or maybe even stay forever!
