State Parks

tent camping at Elephant Butte LakeAll of our area lakes and State Parks - Elephant Butte, Caballo, and Percha Dam - offer camping for RVs and tents.

Reservations: Some (though not all) campsites at Elephant Butte Lake State Park may be reserved between March 1 and September 30. Campsites on the beach are available on a first-come-first serve basis, but electrical sites atPaseo del Rio between Truth or Consequences and Elephant Butte Lake Desert Cove, Quail Run, Lions Beach and South Monticello may be reserved between March 1 - September 30 (reserve online or call 877-664-7787). Other sites that can be reserved are Group Shelters at Dirt Dam, Ridge Road, and Hot Springs Landing.

Tent Camping Near T or C: Paseo del Rio campground, part of Elephant Butte Lake State Park, offers tent camp sites in a scenic area along the Rio Grande and just 3 miles away from downtown Truth or Consequences. (Pictured at right, a walking path at Paseo del Rio.)

Wilderness Areas

The Gila Wilderness and Aldo Leopold Wilderness Areas, are easily accessible via the roads to Hillsboro (152) and Chloride (52) respectively.
