Come join the Sierra Club, Sierra Soil and Water Conservation and the Healing Waters Trail for free breakfast and a morning of learning about birding.

Join us for a Holiday Celebration! A Christmas Tree Lighting, Santa Claus, carolers, wagon rides and bonfires will warm your hearts for the holiday season.  Downtown businesses will be open, and many will have treats on hand for hungry shoppers and holiday revelers.

To wrap up the evening, head to the El Cortez Theater (Main & Foch) at 9:15 for a special free showing of "It's A Wonderful Life."

13      Christmas Crawl 

11am, Warm Springs Boulevard and Highway 195, Elephant Buttea jeep attempts the course

The Crawl is back! Any 4-wheel drive vehicle can take the challenge to crawl over an obstacle course of rocks, culverts and a challenging concrete pyramid (entry fee: $35 per vehicle). Free for spectators.

Afterwards, walk over to Elephant Butte Lake State Park for the Luminaria Beachwalk and the Floating Lights Parade!

13      14th Annual Weekend of Lightsweekend of lights at Elephant Butte NM

        Holiday Fireworks Show 

           Awards Ceremony/After-Party

Thousands of luminarias line paths on the beach that lead to bonfires with cocoa, posole, cider, and caroling. Santa Claus will be there, along with a live Nativity scene, hay rides, and caroling.

The Floating Lights Parade begins at 6:30 pm, and invites boat owners, campers and homeowners to decorate their vessels, RVs and houses for the holidays!  The Grand Marshall for the 2008 Floating Lights Parade is KRQE-TV's meteorologist Mike Hernandez, who (along with his wife) will also judge the competition and present awards.

Fireworks will be provided by Turtleback Mountain Resort. The awards ceremony/community Christmas party follows at 9:30pm at Elephant Butte Inn, 401 Highway 195. 

The event is free with park entrance fee.

The Beachwalk is sponsored by the Rotary Club and proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Contact: Kim Skinner, 575-740-1777.

Events planned for December include M Gallery's Greatest Hits of 2008, 10% off all art supplies at Hot Springs Frame and Art Supply, and "The Eyes of Carnival," an exhibit of new work by in-house artist Dianne Evangelista at RioBravoFineArt, Inc.

Las Cruces-based archaeologist and historian Karl Laumbach will speak on the life and works of Keith Humphries (1907-2002), who painted scenes of the Old West based on stories he gathered from old-timers - stagecoach drivers, muleskinners, miners, cavalrymen and homesteaders.
